Steve has been playing as a bassist for almost 5 decades. He has had the pleasure of working with some of the finest musicians in the world, including such notable such greats as Frank Gambale, Tak Matsumoto, Mike Stern, Billy Cobham, Daniel Ho, Chester Thompson and Brian Bromberg. In 2008, Steve performed on the Grammy Award winning album Ikena, featuring Daniel Ho and the wonderful Tia Carrera. In 2017, Steve recorded “Electric Island, Acoustic Sea” with Daniel Ho and Tak Matsumoto. This project brought forth an extensive tour of Japan where he established an unwavering fan base. That following summer, Steve was honored to record with Tak’s main band B’z. B’z has sold over 40 million records and is one of the premier rock bands in Asia.
Steve is known for his keen ability to bring the bass to the forefront and showcase not only his talent to create powerful grooves, but also a melodic and soloistic approach that is all his own. In his compositions the bass is used to drive the music forward and supply not only a foundation, but also a melodic counterpart.
In addition to performing bass, Steve is a composer and has written for many of the projects he has been part of. In the span of 15 years he recorded 3 albums, featuring original and cover songs, with the electric fusion group Continuum - who’s music is wrapped in layers, complex meters and soaring melodies that take you to places you would never expect.
With his new band, The Odd Dogs, Steve has written most of the composition along with Jeff Miley. The latest album Beneath the Surface pushes the elements of traditional Jazz, combining styles of progressive rock, fusion, straight ahead jazz and world music. Their music utilizes different landscapes of time, rhythm and melody, that connect beautifully threw the deep rich backdrop of harmonic structures.
