Worship
Steve has been involved with worship most of his life. Since a teenager, he has been playing bass in churches, outreaches, and missionary journeys around the world. He joined up with Light and Life Christian Fellowship in Long Beach back in 1993 where he served for over 20 years. In 2001, Steve was called to lead worship at a church plant called “The River”. He led there for almost 8 years. While serving in this roll, in 2003, he met his wife to be, Joyce Billman. Joyce, a very talented singer, pianist, and songwriter, joined the worship team in 2003. Since then they have been worshipping the Lord in and around the greater Los Angeles area.
As a professional musician and educator, Steve brings a unique approach to worship. He balances two essential parts of the worship experience, the elements of praise and music. Not making it a show, Steve enables and gives freedom to the spirit to work and move freely thru those in the congregation, while at the same time bringing excellence and a skill to the production of the music. Psalm 33:3 says to “play your instrument skillfully”. Steve takes this verse to heart and he has lived by it throughout his entire musical life. Whether it is a contemporary worship song or a classic hymn. He loves to put his own spin on it, to make it as fresh, original, and as worshipful as possible.
Joyce and Steve have started their journey recording and producing their own original music. Having a backlog of songs, they are starting out first with an album of Joyce’s original worship songs which Steve is producing. The songs come from an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Their desire is to worship and Glorify God and to keep peoples eyes focused on Jesus. They love being a part of His plan, drawing hearts to him through worship.
